Wild Hyacinth Camassia scilloides

     A Wild Hyacinth is a purple flower that blooms in mid spring. You will find facts about the Wild Hyacinth.  The Wild hyacinth is special because of its edibility and medicine in the plant.

     Do you know where does the Wild Hyacinth grows?  Well the Wild hyacinth grows in black moist soil,  Prairies moist savanna, moist woodlands,  rocky wooded slopes and limestone glades. The plant grows from central California to Utah in width and to north Mexico in height.

     The Wild Hyacinth has purple petals that form a bell shaped flower before it blooms. The stem is long and it leaves produce food to store for dry seasons.

      A Wild Hyacinth is edible and can be cooked. The Wild Hyacinth is edible raw and eaten by Native Americans, but very few eat the plant anymore.  To eat the medical part in the bulb you must kill the plant.
